I added a full 8-bit soundtrack by MegaDaz to my game, featuring remixes from OMORI and the Chainsaw Man OSTs. Each stage has a unique song selected to ensure the loops don’t get too repetitive, as well as ensuring the mood of each area is reflected well.
I finished preparing my additional presentation notes which clarified the key points to bring up during my indie dev discussions:
1
- It would be wise to designate these roles to different people where
possible to share workload
- Mixing work/free time environments can lead to demotivation
- Choosing a target audience + selling point to appeal to them creates
a good product, as well as a recognisable brand “oh, they make this
sort of thing, maybe I’ll check out their future stuff too” - Lots of upcoming games creating tiktok/yt channels etc, very good for
prior marketing - Beware of exclusivity deals: short term gain may lead to long term loss
- Keep a project plan or similar to avoid overstretching on deadlines or
objectives
2
- A viable option if you have enough money to back it up, risk based on
project success (leads to debt funding)
- Very good if you have a large audience to appeal to, risk based on
customer interest, may lead to dissatisfaction if goals are not met - Ensures the funds will be adequate for the entire project duration,
but long term profits may be eaten by the publishers - Grants can provide the boost needed for small projects to take off
and gain the future income they need for larger undertakings - Similar to grants: venture capital may be harder to find for games
with risky genres that may not have guaranteed success
3
- Impact of the examples (hollow knight inspiring metroidvanias,
communities of undertale and fnaf, cultural impact of among us)
4
- Crowdfunding has risk due to not being guaranteed – mix bootstrapping
with whichever grants are possible seems wise
- Analyse recent releases to determine the openings in the industry
- Choose marketing techniques that your chosen audience will resonate with
(new generation might like tiktok, older generation favours direct ads?)
